We were only at Enchanted Trails Camping Resort for a few nights before we moved the 30 miles north were we set up at StageCoach Stop RV Park in Bernalillo NM. It’s located just north of Albuquerque along the Sandias Mountains. This will be a longer stay so we can visit Santa Fe, experience some more of Albuquerque and explore the surrounding area.
What a pleasant surprise this campground has to offer, all paved streets, all paved pull through sites and has full hookups. It offer a fabulous view of the Sandias Mountains, especially at sunset. Even better, it is situated just down the street from Bosque Brewing Company.
There is so much to see and do in Albuquerque. Saturday we explored old town. Built around the early 1700’s when the Spaniards came and wanted to build a “New Spain”. Now it is the cultural center for the city with a still “in-service” 300 year old church, farmers market, many restaurants, many museums and many, many tourist shops.
Sunday, we had lunch at the Pueblo Indian Cultural Center. The restaurant is known for its extraordinary New Native American Cuisine, which incorporates traditional Pueblo flavors into contemporary cooking. The food was outstanding. Afterwards, we watched a tribal dance and toured the museum.
We are starting to encounter some fall weather, with below freezing temps in the early mornings and quickly getting back into the 60-70’s by mid morning. Monday, we got a late start and didn’t get out till around lunch. We headed to Rio Grande Nature Center State Park inside the city to get in a hike. The only natural trees in the area are along the banks of the Rio Grande which runs through the city to the Gulf of Mexico. We got in a good hike but we were noticing a shortness of breath. Then, we realized that the city elevation is a mile high and it had nothing to do with our age.🤗
Afterward, we found Casa Rondeña Winery in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque for a New Mexico wine tasting. The winery is located in the old rancho side of the city with lot’s of old Spanish architecture and influence. The tasting cost $10. We tried several and thought the port wine was the best.
