All the campgrounds close to Duluth were full during this past Sunday-Tuesday annual Duluth Festival of Sail. We had to get a site in Minnesota, about 15 miles south of Duluth at a KOA. I’m not a big fan of KOA’s. They are pricy and the sites are close to each other but they are convenient when in a pinch and usually have a space open. When the festival ended, we got a nice family owned campground back in Wisconsin about 15 miles east of Duluth.
Thursday, we took a drive along the Wisconsin Lake Superior shoreline. There was not much to see. It was mostly forest with a couple small fishing villages. Trees in this northern part of the country are much shorter than back home in Virginia. The growing season is much shorter. I would guess they range around 30 ft, half our size. Denise recognized some apple orchards as we drove. For me, they blend right into the forest and having no orchard structure. She has good eyes!
One fun thing we did was going to Gronk’s Bar & Grill in Superior Wi. It’s well known for it’s “Bottoms Up” beer. This was something new to us. I told our waitress, I will try the “Alaskan Amber.” Follow me” she says. “You can do it yourself!”
Where did We Stay?
We stayed at Northland Camping and RV Park , Wentworth, WI. My review is HERE (by Land Wanderer)
Bottoms up beer?! Never heard of that before and I’ve never seen glasses like that, but that’s pretty cool!!
PS – We thought the apples were radishes 😂
Yea, the apples were small. They still have a couple of months before ready. Still Bitter, trust me….
