Dallas Texas

We have arrived in Dallas Texas to attend my niece Renee’s wedding to Roger. We have been looking forward to it for sometime. Our son Brian and grandson Aaron are driving down from Virginia for the wedding and will be spending a few days with us. Being out of middle-school for a week is no big deal for Aaron, he is issued a computer for the school year and is able to get online to keep up with school work. The closes RV park to the wedding is about 25 miles away at Lake Park Campground, Lewisville.  Can’t beat the site price for seniors, $10/night with hookups. It’s a nice, well maintained city park on Lewisville Lake.

Dallas has a messy spaghetti of highways that require GPS navigation and even with that, it’s nice to have a co-pilot to look out for you. The traffic at all hours and any day is just horrendous. It took us over an hours drive to the wedding on Saturday and slightly shorter time when returning after the reception later that night.

Brian and Aaron wanted to explore Dallas while they were here. So first on the list was Fort Worth Stockyards. Everyday at 11:30am, there is a cattle drive through the stockyard district by trail drovers. We made it there in plenty of time to wander around and watch the traditional drive. We were given a brief history of the trail drovers, Texas Longhorn Steers and their journey to market. We also learned that bulls are color blind and wearing red will not cause them to hunt you down. Aaron was glad to learn that, he wore red athletic shorts and he didn’t want no longhorn chasing him, I wonder where he got that idea from…:)

Next on the list, Aaron wanted to visit the Dallas Cowboy’s home field in Arlington. It was easy to spot the big Dome miles away. We needed a tour pass to visit the inside which had a hefty price of $35 per person. It was way more than what we were willing to pay so we just tour around the outside and decided to visit the home field of the Texas Rangers next door. Globe Life Park played it’s last game a couple of weeks back and is being torn down. A new ball park is being built across the parking lot. So, no touring today!

The next day, we drove back to Fort Worth to hike the Trinity River trail and find Airfield Falls. Perfect day, mid 70’s and very low humidity. The hard surface trail was pretty flat and followed the River for several miles. There was not much shade until we got to the falls. We ate our lunch and explored the area a bit. It was good to hit a trail again. Today, we were able to get in our 10,000 steps.

One morning as we were driving to Fort Worth, we notice some fighter jets doing aerial maneuvers and wondered what was going on. Brian googled and found that the Blue Angles was doing the Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show on Saturday. We had nothing planned and the air show was now on our list of things to do. We left around 9 Saturday morning for the 30 mile trip, hoping to get their by 10, counting for the traffic. And we were right, the traffic was terrible, we got there a little after 10. We stop & go for the last 30 minutes. And leaving was about the same.

The show is ranked No. 3 nationwide as the “Best Air Show”. By the size of the crowd, we were in for a treat. Finding a place to put our chairs to watch the show was not easy, it was wall to wall people along the tarmac. We did luck out and found a spot in front of the parked Blue Angle jets about 10 rows back from the temporary tarmac fence. Along the hanger area, there was plenty of parked aircrafts to look at and some were even open to explore. Each show lasted about 4 hours with the Blue Angles giving the final awesome performance.

Saturday evening, we attended Renee and Roger’s wedding and reception. It was very nice and elegant. We got to visit with family and friends that we have not seen in a while.

  1. Looks like a great time and that air show sounds awesome! I can’t believe Aaron got to keep up with school on a laptop. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like once Jace and Ellie are his age! Haha Glad you all had a great trip!

Say something, love to hear from you!
