Sabino Canyon is one of several places to hike in the unique Coronado National Forest of Arizona. This is the location where Saguaro cactus are king and they are awesome- old, monumental and like nothing you have seen before. It’s a National Park so I used my Senior National Park pass to save the $5 entrance fee. There are many trails at Sabino Canyon. We chose a 4 miler with a moderate difficulty. This will be our most challenging hike ever! At the visitors center, hike prep sign suggested that we wear hiking shoes, bring a hat, use sunscreen and bring plenty of water since it is high desert and easy to dehydrate. Walking sticks are helpful since some of the trails are rugged.
Bottom line – this hike is in our top 5 list for most beautiful hikes, and we hike, a lot. Breathtaking scenery, rugged, the creek, greenery and steep canyon walls are more reminiscent of Northern Arizona (with exception Saguaro Cactus.). The trail ends with a lovely waterfall and beautiful pools surrounded by smooth rock and boulders. The trails, are not well marked, so the adventure of following a map given at the visitors center is adventurous to me, not so much for Denise! (I was not lost one time)
Oh yea, the main trail that we were following was called “RATTLESNAKE”
Great update guys. Have a merry Christmas
Same to you and Bobbie.
Looks awesome! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks Jeff! Merry Christmas to you and family also. I was thinking of you when I did the Grilling School in Phoenix on seafood and how you didn’t like seafood.
