Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

You are probably wondering why this public land is called a national monument instead of a national park. I did! I asked a park ranger and he gave me a simple answer. The difference is Congress designates national parks; presidential proclamations establish national monuments. He said it is much faster and easier to just bypass congress. Now that is something that I can understand.

This monument is a showcase of the Sonoran Desert of its many plants and animals. It’s a little off the beaten path along the Mexican border. The Saguaro and Organ Pipe Cactus here are exceptionally beautiful and abundant. The Organ Pipe Cactus are rarely found in the United States, but common in Mexico.” From the Cactus Chronicle

We drove the Ajo Mountain Scenic Loop mostly a dirt road that goes about 21 miles through the desert. It was incredible! The road is a bit rough in spots but nothing our 4WD truck couldn’t handle. Took all of the 4 hours recommended for this gorgeous drive.

It was an amazing journey through the desert and seeing the Ajo Mountains up close. Below is our video capture of our adventure! I suggest making it full screen and turn the music up! It’s fun 2 go wandering!

At the apex of our journey, we hiked the Arch Canyon Trail to a natural spring at the foot of the arch.

About half way on our scenic drive, we hiked the Arch Canyon Trail.
I was wondering how that small boulder got on top of the big boulder ????
we found it while hiking the Arch Canyon Trail.

Say something, love to hear from you!
