Parker Az.

Wow, we find it hard to believe it has been over 6 months since we started fulltiming in our RV! Where has the time gone? From the time we left Virginia on July 10th, we have been living the lifestyle that I call “living the dream!” Where everyday there are interesting people to meet, things to see and adventures to do. It’s been fun and crazy!

For the last 10 days we have been hanging around the Colorado River along Arizona’s western border. We are staying at Buckskin Mountain State Park right on the river just outside of Parker Az. This area along the river is the most beautiful in Arizona with palm trees lining the banks making it a great location for RV parks.

Buckskin Mountain State Park. It’s a five star favorite for us.

The river is the state border with California on the west side and Arizona on the east side. California is on Pacific time and Arizona is on Mountain time. During our stay, the park is in a no cell service area…But…sometimes…..during the night our phones would connect briefly to a cell tower and depending which tower (California or Arizona) could change our phone time. This really messed us up the first time it happened. But I did get an extra hour of sleep!

RV Park across the river on the California side.
We picked site 51 with plenty of space between sites and a nice view of the river.
Nice scenic hiking trails.

On a Saturday afternoon, we drove out to the Imperial Sand Dunes National Recreation Area west of Yuma to watch OHV (off-highway-vehicles). Truly amazing!

Not to far from our campsite is a unique place called the Desert Bar. It is located the very very end of Cienega Springs road, out in the middle of the desert, totally off the grid. It took us over 30 minutes to drive the very rough road . Once we got there it was hard to find a parking spot. The place was packed (couple of hundred people). Live music, plenty of food and drinks, cash only…We stayed for two sets of the band playing. They were great! They were from Las Vegas playing 60’s & 70’s era music. It was a lot of fun!

Hard to tell, but we are finally arriving…

A few miles up the river from our campsite is Lake Havasu. What makes this place interesting is that the city was formed in 1965 (fairly new city). Shortly afterward, London England sought a buyer for the London Bridge and Lake Havasu placed the winning bid. The bridge was reconstructed on the Colorado River downtown Lake Havasu and the rest is history!

  1. Dave, I am jealous of your wandering lifestyle. What did you do with your furniture? How long do you plan to full time RV? Will you go back to Lynchburg?

    1. It’s been a while Charley, hope you guys are doing good! We are talking about next winter in Florida, maybe IBE…

  2. Dave, wonderful to see you and Denise living the dream. That bar is quite popular with the Escapees/Xcapers. They are all in Quartzite for the Bash. We are hoping to hit the road “soon” ourselves.

Say something, love to hear from you!
