We Are Back To A Familiar Place.

I marveled at all the Spring beauty around us.  From the farmlands freshly turned fields to Forest trees filling in with vibrant new life.  We are back to a familiar place! Not too long ago, we were adventuress traveling free-spirited people and I still have hopes that someday when all this covid madness and over priced, over populated RV parks is over, we will be free-spirited again.

It is so nice to be here. We are again staying in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Despite retiring a few years back, I am now consulting again for a local company. It’s a multi-year project and I am really enjoying the work. We will be hanging around here for a while.

We are in the mountains and there are a lot of water falls to explore. Just a few miles from us, is Dry Falls. It’s a short walk from the parking lot and as the trail descends, it takes you behind the falls for a “wet spray”. Depending on the wind direction, you can receive a nice shower. I had a hat on so the spray wasn’t too bad, but Denise, she got a good dose of wet hair.

It was a marvelous weather morning with a brisk breeze out of the south moving volumes of warmer air into our area.  It was a short sleeve shirt walk this morning as we visited the local farmers market in Franklin. Snagged a few photos and then we headed for Sylva about 20 miles away.

The A.T. (Appalachian Trail) is at the 110 mile marker in Franklin.

A short 35 minute drive on a clear spring day took us to the entrance of the Smoky Mountain National Park in Cherokee, NC. We visited Oconaluftee Visitor Center and the historic Mountain Farm Museum.

We were being watched!
Wonder why these iris’s are growing so well?

The Blue Ridge Parkway ends at mile 469, the final river crossing at mile 469, in Cherokee NC, built by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1935
After our Oconaluftee River Trail hike, we found Native Brews in Cherokee NC. I tried the Smoky Mountain Golden Ale. It was good!
Denise made reservation for dinner at Guy Fieris restaurant at the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort.
Enjoyed Guy’s signature Expresso Martini
When in Rome….So when you are at a Guy’s restaurant, you have to try his signature sandwiches….I had the Prime Time American Kobe. I don’t eat much red meat, but this was something to savor! We will be back!

  1. Looks like good place to land! Mostly Pam and I are doing State Parks in VA because they are mostly quiet. However, as you indicated, we make reservations 11 months ahead (most allowed) to get the spaces we like. We did Kiptopeke SP (eastern shore) over spring break. Loved it and did ~ 30 Geocaches! Going to Hungry Mother SP in Marion, VA in June for 2 weeks. Really looking forward to it.
Pam and I are doing some dreaming on RV’s in preparation for retirement. Target plan 2 to 4 years. Mostly looking at 5th wheels. BIG upgrade for our ole 2006 Grand Surveyor!
Take care and enjoy the summer.

PS – you picking up a consulting job is no surprise to me! You cant sit still! – 😉

    1. You know me too well, Cris.
Our daughter & family live in Abingdon, we have stayed at Hungry Mother. Nice park and beautiful area. Some suggestion: Do the Channels (my blog post here)
Also suggest the Virginia Creeper Trail bike ride (my blog post here)
Pam and you enjoy your RV time. It’s a great life.
