Arlington-Fort Worth Texas

We left Gadsden, Alabama with clearing skies from a night of drizzling rain. We took Interstate 59 south to Birmingham where we connected to I-20 west. I checked the weather forecast for our route before we left and there were lots of flood warnings.  We saw small area’s of flooding along the way but nothing of concern.  I did see a few mud tracks of cars that were one time in the ditch or center median that must have lost control in the hard  rain.

It took us a couple of easy going days to travel to Fort Worth, Texas.  We need a little time to plan for the next leg of our trip.  We will be about 10 days in rural West Texas.  Today was a day of shopping, doing laundry and getting a little site seeing in. I was thinking Dallas is home to the Dallas Cowboys, America’s Team, maybe visit the stadium….but I learned, “when you are in Fort Worth, you must see the stockyards.”

We got to the stockyard just in time watch a cattle drive coming in through the streets. The Texas Longhorns probably have done this gig a thousand times.  It was interesting to watch the cowboys herd the Longhorns. They acted just like a real range cowboy not like actors. Fort Worth_2016 01 02_0635_edited-1

Stockyard would not be complete without a bucking bull.

Tomorrow, Denise will be spending the day cooking and freezing dinners in preparation for our west Texas adventure.  I think she has me scheduled for making muffins. And then Monday is our departure date.  Right now, our plan is to spend some time at Big Bend National Park.   It is in the “middle-of-no-where” along the Mexican border.  The weather hopefully is our friend.  If the weather plans to turns to snow or ice, we are leaving for Arizona.  We don’t know if we will have internet or cell service. We might have to keep in contact with the Ranger Stations for weather updates.

We are staying at Arlington/Dallas Metro KOA.  We are paying $55 per night.  (We got one night free because I redeemed KOA points).  We have water, sewer, 50amp electrical service, cable TV and free internet. We are in site 348, a pull through site.  We do not like this place.  The place is designed for maximum amount of RV sites in a small area.  The roads are narrow, sites are narrow, internet is slow and cable TV reception is poor. We would not stay here again.
