We were not lacking for things to see or do. We did the normal tourist type places like Balboa Park, Old Town, Coronado, Gas Lamp district, Little Italy La Jolla and Torrey Pines. We fought traffic and crowds everywhere we went. Denise and I both agree, we are not and don’t ever plan to be urbanites.
Our best time was spent at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve just above La Jolla. The preserve is home to the nations rarest pine tree. It also has several trails that winds through the 300 foot cliffs that overlooked the beach. The views were great!
One of the popular events in San Diego is the Saturday morning Little Italy Farmers Market. It takes up most of the Little Italy district. We circled the area a couple of times to find a free parking spot. We had a nice long walk to to the market. Tons of people. There were lot’s of vendors. Denise shopped while I had fun taking pictures.
Yesterday, I rode my bike around Mission Bay. It’s about a 17 mile ride. The city has many bike trails throughout the city and also one around the bay. About half way through my ride, I passed Sea World parking lots and out of no-where, a RC (remote control) hobby plane nose-first dive into my bike path 10 feet in front of me. Pieces went everywhere. It hit with such a force that it caught fire. Now, not many people can say that they were almost struck by a fallen plane. This is one for the books.
I waited around for a few minutes until two guys ran up and started apologizing. They explained that there is a RC air strip next to the parking lot and that they were enjoying the morning until they flew the plane out too far and lost radio control. That’s when it took a nose dive in front of me.
Lucky!! Sounds like a fun bike ride. Glad you got yourself a new bike! We love you guys!
P.S. You need to bring the farmer’s market back with you! Everything looks delicious!
